Old Anchorag High School circa 1950's (6th & G)
Do you remember the sights, sounds, and smells of the time-worn halls at "old" AHS and, how proud you were to be attending the new school building?  The sights of students congregating near lockers, the sounds of giggles and whispers, and the smells of the new/old textbooks, papers and "dirty gym socks" must bring back those memories.  Students rushing to and from class, sharing secrets, or anxious to get  home for the day-makes the mind wander to those days.  The tour of (West) Anchorage High School will be held during summer school hours.  The sights, sounds, and smells will be a reminder of the early 50s.  The characters are different-l/2 century younger.   Students walk with a certain confident step (THEY will conquer the world) as we did.  Nothing but time really has changed so, enjoy the sights and sounds of  ANCHORAGE HIGH SCHOOL'S
"first baby".

(NEW) High School (Hillcrest Dr.) Circa 1953-54
In 1954 it was written that, "A serious problem in the rapid growth of the Anchorage area has been to keep educational facilities abreast of the need.  Here is seen the latest addition to the area's school system, the high school building which was rushed to completion in time for the beginning of the 1953-1954 school term.  An auditorium is still to be added at the right".
High School (per 1954 accounts)
"From ground level the new high school building is seen as the most modern in design of any school in the territory.
New arrivals from the "states" find that classes and equipment in the Anchorage Area school, often surpass the stateside standards.
The system now includes the new high school, a junior high school and five modern elementary schools."
